RE: New Law Elderly Inmate Compassionate Release Petition

Dear Warden [Name],

My name is Karl Rogers, and I am currently incarcerated at FCI Herlong. I am submitting this New Law Elderly Inmate compassionate release petition under Program Statement 5050.50, Compassionate Release/Reduction in Sentence: Procedures for Implementation of 18 U.S.C. § 3582(c)(1)(A).

I am specifically petitioning for release under the “New Law” Elderly Inmate category, as outlined in Section 4(a) of the program statement. This provision states that inmates sentenced after November 1, 1987, who are 70 years old or older and have served 30 years or more, qualify for compassionate release.

On December 5, 1988, I received a 50-year sentence for conspiring to distribute crack cocaine. I have now served 30 years and recently turned 70. During my incarceration, I have maintained a spotless disciplinary record and participated in every program available to those convicted of drug offenses, including Drug Education Classes, AA/NA, the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program, Criminal Thinking, and Smart Recovery. I believe I qualify for compassionate release as a “New Law” Elderly Inmate, and this petition is my formal request.

In addition to my qualifications under the guidelines, I have worked as an inmate tutor in the prison’s Education Department for the past decade, helping fellow prisoners study for their GED. This work has been gratifying, and I believe I have positively impacted many lives. I am committed to making amends for my past mistakes by contributing to the rehabilitation of others, which I believe has enhanced public safety. I hope this commitment reassures you of my intentions upon release.

If granted compassionate release, I plan to live with my son, Scott Rogers, at 345 Ocean Drive, Santa Monica, CA 00000. I will support myself by working as a cashier at my son’s hardware store, Rogers’ Hardware, also located in Santa Monica. My son has agreed to provide for my financial needs and ensure I receive any necessary medical care.

I sincerely appreciate your consideration of this New Law Elderly Inmate compassionate release petition. After spending so many years in prison, I have learned from my past mistakes and wish to spend my remaining years with my children and grandchildren. Your approval of my release would bring me immense joy and greatly relieve the burden on my family. I respectfully request your approval to return home to my family.

Respectfully submitted,
Karl Rogers
